Fiestaware, also known as Fiesta, is a line of colorful glazed dinnerware. The colors are solid and the products are marketed by the Homer Laughlin China Company.
In 1936 Fiestaware was introduced by the Home Laughlin China Company which was based out of Newell, West Virginia and was designed by Frederick Hurton. When it was introduced, Fiestaware was only available in 5 colors: Ivory, Red, Cobalt Blue, Green, and Yellow. In 1937 Turquoise was added to the color palette. The Red dinnerware pieces included an ice pitcher, salt and pepper shakers, 12 inch and 10 inch divided dinner plates, and various sizes of dinner plates and bowls. In 1943 Fiesta had to eliminate Red from production due to uranium being controlled by the government. The other colors remained until 1951. As the times changed, so did color preferences.
Fiesta introduced Dark Green, Gray, Chartreuse, and Rose. Light Green and Ivory were eliminated, which left only Turquoise and Yellow from the original color palette. In 1959 the last color change occurred and Dark Green, Chartreuse, Gray, and Rose were eliminated. Red was reintroduced and Medium Green was added.
Today, Fiestaware remains true to the original styles. Fiesta lovers can purchase current colors such as Black, Cinnabar, Chocolate, Cobalt, Evergreen, Heather, Persimmon, and Plum. Scarlet, Shamrock, Sunflower, Tangerine, Turquoise, and White are also current colors offered by Fiestaware. Over the years, Fiesta has discontinued several colors. The colors, also known as "retired" colors, can also be purchased. Juniper, Rose, Pearl Gray, Yellow, and Sea Mist are the retired colors that Fiesta currently offers. Fiestaware also currently offers patterns such American Christmas Tree, Tones, and Holiday.
